In 1962 Australia sent
Military 'advisers' to South Vietnam, this was the commencment
of the longest committment of Australian military personnel
to an area of conflict. By the time Australia pull out
the last of the troops in 1972 over 50,000 servicemen
and women served in South Vietnam. A total of 496 Australians
lost their lives. This conflict was one fought by both
regular and conscript soldiers which to this day is
still controversial. This was the first war that was
brought daily into the homes of civillians and showed
war in all it's horror.
